cap and gown please!

after 5 long years...I did it!  the 7 days a week, 12 months a year, with only a few small breaks...countless hours of homework, and giving up nights out with friends, weekends away and a general sense of overall freedom...through working multiple jobs, starting and running my own business, and attending more weddings then I ever thought possible...

I FINISHED SCHOOL!!

I am the proud, and accomplished owner of a second bachelor's degree, in Graphic Design.

whew...I need to lay down :)  no more HW!!  it's a weird, but very wonderful feeling!

elective class fun

so being an art major has it's advantages...fewer papers, hardly any math equations...not many dates or names to memorize...but even in my fourth year, I still have some '100-level' electives to take...so for the last four weeks, I've been a painting fool!

I briefly used acrylic paints for a class about 2 1/2 years ago...so it's been a while, and I was feeling a bit rusty...but I think I'm starting to get the hang of/starting to enjoy this medium. We are doing mostly still-life paintings, so I thought I'd share a few of the ones I have done so far...

Graphic Illustration Assignments

I feel like recently I've posted everything but classwork on my blog...so here's an assignment I turned in yesterday, using both Illustrator and Photoshop...the drawing was done in Illustrator, and the effects were added in Photoshop...it was fun, but as always, I wish I had more time to work on it...maybe soon...hopefully really soon...

logo

so I have a few posts in the works right now...it's been a busy couple of days!

one of the reasons for the busyness is that classes have started up again...the one I'm currently in, is Electronic Design, and in that course, we choose a client to design for...so my teacher suggested, I be my own client! so far we've done a newsletter and a newsprint ad, and this week is logo design as well as a magazine ad...

I got a little ahead of the game, and already designed a logo...penguins, good...purple, good...

mixed media, final work in progress

the last assignment of mixed media class...our task, is to take an article from a magazine, and give it our own illustrated design....my article, is about a restaurant that serves all natural, organic, vegetarian foods, that started out with smoothies and fruit based beverages...the title of the article is Natural Nectar, and when this is all done, the pear will have a straw coming out of the side, and the background will look like wood...hopefully :p the mediums I'm using for this mixed media masterpiece? Acrylic...Watercolor Pencil...Watercolors...

it's due tonight...wish me luck!

acrylic work in progress

our medium of choice this week? Acrylic! I've actually worked with acrylics before, and at first I struggled a bit to get back in the groove, but I think I've found it! Our assignment is to create a poster for an event, and I am making one for the VT alumni -Baltimore Chapter's annual crab feast! I've never been, but hopefully this year I can go! Maybe I can send them my poster to use ;)

I'm not sure, but I want to add more fun details, maybe a few seashells, but nothing that makes it too busy...the final is due this weekend so I still have time :)

Mixed Media - Pastel drawing

I'm already into week 3 of my new class! How does it go so quickly? Anyway...our week 2 assignment, was to create a pastel drawing, inspired by a quotation, that could be used in a calendar. The quote I chose is:

"Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart" -Victor Hugo
