What I'm Working on - first floor revamp

when I first moved out of Canton, and into good old Pigtown...I was pretty sure that it was going to be a temporary situation...I never thought we'd still be on this block, in this tiny rowhouse, but alas here we are...and my need for change has once again reared its ugly head...so since we can't really do much in the way of re-organizing any of the rooms in the house (read: the furniture really only fits in one way) I did think long and hard about how to make better use of the first floor...

we have a kitchen table that usually gets piled up with "stuff" and not actually eaten at...and now that I have lots of studying to do, and just work in general, it would be nice to have a place to spread out if I needed...

also, in the solution of The Great Cat Territory Wars of 819...some new couch covers have been attained...here's hoping they solve part of our problem...

and lastly, the kitchen is now pretty much storage, but the room feels a lot bigger with the table out of it...since it might actually get used where it is now, I think it's a good move...now to decide if getting a better storage system for the kitchen is worth it...in the interest of how long we potentially will still live here, I think it might be time to hit up Ikea...

 

oh, and to get stuff hung up on the walls...time to make it feel more like home :)

the house in SC is beautiful...truly a home away from home...it was so nice and warm, and quiet at night...really peaceful...it was very hard to leave!

it's official...my parents now have the keys to their new house in South Carolina :)

busy, busy

so now that the house is officially 100% done...I finally have a *little* more time to get things done that are not solely house related...so I did a little jewelry making over the weekend...

these are all the orders going out today!!


thanks to Tropical Storm Hanna I was quite productive...staying home = lots o cleaning too :p my co-worker Stephanie showed me this awesome site...Storm Pulse lets you track the storms...you can see where they've been, where they're going, and lots of other fun details like wind speeds...so I was able to check on our trip this weekend to Florida...only a 5% chance of tropical storm like winds!

well not so much up...but definitely moving...and I'm okay with it now...it will be an interesting adventure...moving in with B...being able to start saving money so we can get a nice house someday...not in Baltimore, and definitely not on Mangold Street...ahh things are looking up :)

Since we can't take in anymore cats off the street...we've taken to naming them, and trying to make friends...leave them food...these are our buddies Penelope (on steps) and Nigel (ground)

or at least I think it's the bathroom in 'my' room at my parent's new place...things are moving along!

Sunday night I learned a few things...no power = no fun...we had a nice little 3 hour power failure in the neighborhoods around mine...so I rounded up all the candles I could find, and bunkered in for a few hours of eerie silence :p

also...no power, is kind of boring...if it had been during the day, it would have been light enough to read, or get other things done around my house, but being that it was 9pm it was a little more difficult...so I rounded up all the candles I could find...and sat on my couch...



and of course...no power and no light makes it hard to make dinner...so pizza delivery to the rescue...ahh pizza by candlelight...not the way I envisioned ending up the weekend or gearing up to start the new week...but it was definitely an experience...

how to catch a mouse

I have two cats...so lucky me, I haven't ever seen a mouse in my house...which is a rare occurrence if you live downtown...they're everywhere, and in the city, it's kind of a given that you'll have a run in with at least one mouse :p

but my friends...who have probably the cleanest house I've ever seen...had a little mouse come to stay for a few weeks...and they finally caught him, using a technique they found at this site: how to catch a mouse


I agree with Kelley...why are they so cute animated...but not so much when they're in your house!
