Blog Carnival for April

This is my first month as a member of the Etsy Bloggers Street Team...so hopefully I am doing this right :P The theme is Poetry Reading Day, so this post can be about anything Poetry related...

I'm not sure if it's technically poetry, but one of my absolute favorite author/poets was Dr Seuss. The silly made up words, the goofy rhymes, but always heart-warming stories make him my favorite as a child, and still today. I actually just found a book, that's a biography of the good Doctor, and I can not wait to find time to sit down and read it!

My all-time favorite Seuss work is How the Grinch Stole Christmas...I can basically recite the lines from memory...I'm very annoying if you watch the movie with me ;)

Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville, did not. The Grinch hated Christmas - the whole Christmas season. Oh, please don't ask why, no one quite knows the reason. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. Or maybe his head wasn't screwed on just right. But I think that the most likely reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.

now if that isn't pure poetry, I don't know what is!

and then of course, another favorite of mine, the Lorax, always wanting to save the environment, to 'speak for the trees'...I was always impressed with the ability to get a message out there, but all the while in a fun and interesting way for children and adults to read...there really is no one else like him :)

I really could go on and on...but I'll stop now, and end with something inspiring...Oh! The Places You'll Go!

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,
you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

And you may not find any
you'll want to go down.
In that case, of course,
you'll head straight out of town.

It's opener there
in the wide open air.

Out there things can happen
and frequently do
to people as brainy
and footsy as you.

And when things start to happen,
don't worry. Don't stew.
Just go right along.
You'll start happening too.

OH!
THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!

Oh, good ol' Dr. Seuss. My girls are still at the age where they love hearing Dr. Seuss books. I htink my favorite has to be the story, "Too Many Daves," which is in The Sneeches. Maybe because my husband is a Dave, and every third guy he works with is a Dave... Just too many of 'em!

That was great! I'm another Dr. Seuss fan. I guess his books reminds me of sitting with my mother and reading (my mom and I are both librarians and big readers) Thanks for reminding me of the good Dr.
